Tiger Safari Zoological Park
Located only thirty minutes outside of Oklahoma City, Tuttle, OK is the perfect place to get away from the crowds without being too far removed from the conveniences of the state’s capital. Tuttle itself is full of attractions for the townie or nature enthusiast - or both! An agricultural community at heart, Tuttle was founded in 1901 and produces wheat, cotton, corn, alfalfa hay, and more for to be exported outward. It is also a short drive away from a variety of hiking trails in seemingly every direction.
Visit Braum’s Dairy Farm as the perfect place to take the kids on a hot summer day - or any other day of the year. Tour the factory to see how ice cream, milk, and other dairy products are made. Then, top off the day with some ice cream made right on the farm! Just be sure to make a reservation first. If you’re interested in the history of the town, you can go to Silver Springs Cemetery, where one of the first people to be buried was a cowboy shot in the 19th century. The Chisholm Trail also dates back to the late 1800s. It was used to transport livestock shortly after the Civil War, and it crosses right through the city.
For nature buffs, check out the Tiger Safari Zoological Park. Built to resemble an African village with African wildlife, it is a great place to head over for a day trip or to spend the night; the park offers treehouses that overlook the animals. There is also an opportunity for ax throwing at the zoo, with nerf axes built so that the kids can enjoy the sport, as well. In broader Grady County, there are also a variety of places to go hunting, fishing, and hiking. Fish include bass and trout, and wildlife to see include quail, deer, waterfowl, and rabbits. Parks located within 45 minutes of the town include Sequoyah Trail Park, Sutton Wilderness Trail Park, and Canadian Trails Park. If you’re lucky enough to be in Tuttle in the winter, Winterfest is one of the city’s great offerings. With an ice skating rink bigger than the Rockefeller Center, it’s an amazing experience full of holiday cheer.
Finally, Tuttle offers a variety of options for quality foods. Pizza 360 has a variety of options and great service. Or, try Jamie Joe’s Restaurant for an enjoyable sit-down experience. There are also many bars and breweries in and around the area for an evening of drinks.
